ISLAMABAD, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Some unknown militants stormed a military check post in Pakistan's northwest tribal district of North Waziristan on Saturday, killing three security personnel and injuring one other, local reports said.
The militants fled the scene after the attack. The bodies and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, ARY News said.
Identities of the militants are not known yet, neither has any group or individual claimed the attack so far.
North Waziristan, the former semi-autonomous region, is now a part of Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The district remained a hostage of Taliban and other local and foreign militants who had sanctuaries in the region from where they trained militants, store weapons and masterminded terrorist attacks.
Militancy was defeated in the area by the yearlong military operation in which scores of militants and soldiers were killed, but the security forces succeeded to free the area from the possession of militants, by removing their safe havens and driving them away from the area.
The backbone of the militants has been broken by the military operation, but they lose no chance to target security forces in sporadic attacks.
